Character Animation

Duik Bassel After Effects Project

Character Design

This project consisted of three main points of ideation and two major executional steps to become what it did!

The first process was general sketches and story boarding. This little character had been a character of mine for quite some time now, mainly existing on margins of high school notes and sketch books, undergoing several different changes, including in this design

After this, turning this little guy from pencil and paper into illustrator was a task in itself and to the right you can see the majority of that process.

The last step before starting to execute was set design, and this can be seen in the final background of the video! A cute greyscale night sky, how lovely.

The final steps to make this come to life was character rigging and general animations. For this I used Duik Bassel, a character rigging plugin for After Effects. The steps are fairly streamline of parenting layers to skeletal joints made from the plugin, and after that's all setup, it was good to go. Some position keyframes here, some scale & opacity keyframes there, a few camera movements, a tad bit of sound design and voilà!
